Whether in the workplace, schools or universities, churches, or special groups, people face communication issues that affect interactions, behaviors, and building relationships. Employees struggle with professionalism in the face of hidden rules and protocol. New graduates are tasked with presenting a more mature version of themselves as they enter the land of adulthood. Business professionals want to build tight relationships and leverage networking in certain settings. Executives want to make a dynamic impression in upscale settings and client dinners. Overall, people want to make unforgettable impressions and build a reputation for being emotionally intelligent, charismatic, thoughtful, engaging, and aware of how they interact with others.
I believe etiquette doesn’t have to be stuffy, and it’s not just about knowing what fork to use. It’s the people skills that put other people first, make them feel comfortable, and build respectful relationships.
I believe good eye contact and a strong handshake may seem like little things, but people will perceive you as more confident and reliable.
I believe good manners are more than just common courtesy. They represent a reflection of who you are. People with good manners are perceived as more intelligent and caring. It’s just that simple.
Penny Aviotti is a certified Intercultural Etiquette and Protocol Trainer by The Protocol School of Washington, the only accredited protocol and etiquette school in the nation that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Aviotti also is a certified Bridges Out of Poverty trainer specializing in “Hidden Rules at Work,” a workshop that examines the correlation between an individual’s resources and his or her promotion and success in the workplace. Her seminars garnered the 2019 Best of Memphis Award in the category of Etiquette and Training Services. She writes an advice blog called Ask Ms. Corporate Manners that has won two VOX awards.
Penny Aviotti has always loves to give advice – just ask her children, grandchildren and friends. Trained and certified by The Protocol School of Washington, the leader in business image coaching, etiquette, and protocol services also wrote an advice column called www.MsCorporateManners.org, which has won two VOX awards. Penny is a graduate of the Harvard of the South, Ole Miss, where the Grove puts Harvard Yard to shame. She also is certified in corporate community relations by Boston College, accredited in public relations by the Public Relations Society of America and has carried the Olympic torch. She gives advice now but started on the receiving end – as a waitress, a newspaper reporter, and a philanthropist.
